Carlton signed Blues VFLW captain Eliza Wood to its AFLW squad ahead of the 2025 season. It is a fitting reward for Wood, who - having claimed the 2024 VFLW Best and Fairest and was also named Best Club Person - has been a standout across her five seasons with Carlton's VFLW program. A natural leader, Wood has been valuable for a developing VFLW side, helping to guide younger players and set high standards within the group. Playing as a midfielder-forward, Wood is impressive in the contest with the skills to apply pressure and efficiently move the ball forward to create scoring opportunities for her side. Unfortunately, she suffered an ACL injury playing a VFLW match and will miss the 2025 season.

Eliza Wood was delisted at the end of the 2025 season. Wood was signed from the Blues' VFLW side earlier this year as a replacement player for Kerryn Peterson, who was placed on the inactive list due to the birth of her first child in August. However, Wood was unable to make a senior appearance in the AFLW after she too was placed on the inactive list in July as a result of an ACL injury sustained in round 12 of the VFLW season.
