Game Review

Prior to the commencement of the match Bob Chitty was informed that two of his brothers, who were with the 2/2 Field Ambulance A.I.F. during the German invasion of the Mediterranean island of Crete, were reported missing. Despite being upset by the news, Bob decided to play and was one of the Blues' best players.

Look at the scores, and enjoy not only the win, but the knowledge that we probably should've creamed them this day! Paul Schmidt was again terrific up front for Carlton with another 5-goal haul, but Bob Chitty was reported for elbowing Alby Pannam, and was suspended for 2 weeks. The good news was that Melbourne also lost, and after defeating Collingwood, Carlton was now entrenched in fourth place, behind Essendon, Footscray and Richmond.

"Congratulating players after the Carlton game Carlton's president (Mr. K. Luke) said. "We have paid off one old score to-day, and we intend to pay off another when we meet Melbourne at the M.C.G. next Monday." (Age June 19 p10)

At the end of this round Carlton were in 4th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 116.5.
