Game Review

A plucky and determined Melbourne team seemed about to cause a boilover when they led the Blues by 7 points at three-quarter time in this game at Princes Park. But in a great contest in the last quarter, Carlton kicked 5.5 to the Demons' 1.8 and got home by 14 points.

Champion defender Bruce Doull celebrated a rare goal this day, and the Blues remained unbeaten on top of the ladder. Making up the top five were North Melbourne, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Fitzroy.

Statistically Speaking Once again Carlton's handball of 127 was in excess of their average of 114 for each match this season. The Blues had 42.7% more handballs than Melbourne and had an average of 64.6% in outmarking the Demons 79 to 48. Ruck-rover Barry Armstrong was the player of the round with 35 possessions. - Ray Young Football Record
