Game Review

Coming into this last game of the home and away season, the Blues were sitting in second place on the ladder by percentage to Collingwood, but knew they had a real chance of pinching the minor premiership with a big win over the struggling Bulldogs at Princes Park. As it turned out, Carlton should have snatched that honour from under the Magpies' noses, but wayward kicking for goal - 32 scoring shots to 11 by Footscray - proved costly, and Collingwood retained their top of the table honours by only 3%.

A gale was blowing. In the second quarter Les Allen had a shot from 15 yards out, the ball failed to cross the line and was rushed through for the first score at that end up to half time. Often the ball blew back over the Carlton player's heads when kicking into the wind.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 2nd spot on the ladder with a percentage of 141.6.
