Game Review

Carlton all but ended Essendon’s finals hopes with this emphatic victory at Princes Park. Despite missing many gettable shots at goal, the Blueboys were in total control of this match from the first bounce, and kept the Same Old scoreless for the entire first half.

Almost 110 years later, Essendon’s total of 2.2 still stands as their record lowest score against the Blues. With four matches remaining before the Sectionals, Carlton was entrenched in third place, and certain to be playing finals football for the first time in September.

And although he kicked just one goal in this game, Joe Sullivan’s progressive tally of 20 was now only one fewer than the League’s leading scorer, Ted Rowell of Collingwood.
