Game Review

After their brilliant effort in destroying Collingwood in the previous week's Semi Final, Carlton coach Jack Worrall named an unchanged side for this eagerly-anticipated Preliminary Final against Fitzroy. The Blues had already upset Fitzroy during the season - in round 11 - and their form against the Magpies had boosted their confidence to new levels.

The match opened with thrills galore; spectacular marks, fierce physical clashes and exhilirating dashes from both sides, and there was little between them on the scoreboard at half-time. But led by their busy rover Percy Trotter, the Maroons gradually exerted their authority on the match and kept Carlton goalless in the final quarter to run out victors by 27 points.

A week later, Fitzroy won their second VFL Premiership in three years; defeating Collingwood by 13 points in a dour, low-scoring Grand Final at the MCG.
